A Final Chance to Return to the Source
This July 20-27th will be the last Return to the Source Retreat.
At least for some time.
This event has been the heart of the Evolve Move Play year since 2013, and I have felt incredibly blessed to host it.
I have had many of the most profound teaching moments of my career on this one week in July, as well as many major leaps as an athlete myself.
I did my own first double back flip off a cliff at Return to the Source and my first front flip to dive. We invented countless games here, and got the chance to share them with some incredible people. Over the years, we’ve welcomed some of the world’s most advanced parkour and movement practitioners, expert wilderness teachers, and leading philosophical thinkers, like my mentor John Vervaeke, as well as so many loving, thoughtful people of all kinds.
But everything has its season.
On July 16th, 2023—the first day of that year’s retreat—my father, Sun Ray, passed away from a heart attack.
I completed the week’s teaching and took time to grieve afterward. We returned in 2024, but I realized how much weight it carried to host the event during the week of his passing.
Alongside that weight, my children are growing and need more of me. And the scale of this retreat has outgrown the alignment between it’s demands and the Sun Ray Shire’s evolving business model.
So it’s time for a pause. A fallow season to digest and renew.
I feel deeply called in this next season to focus on writing and video creation, to more clearly and broadly share the ideas we’ve developed. I also need to root more deeply in the daily reality of family life and building a local community where this vision can be lived.
Going forward, Evolve Move Play will center on our online community and the growth of local hubs led by the first generation of EMP-certified coaches (more on them soon).
Retreats will return, but likely not for another 2–3 years. And when they do, they’ll look different.
So if you have been wanting to experience the unique power of recovering your relationship to your body, to nature, to movement, to play and community, with some of the world's best movement teachers(both staff and students for that matter) at the remarkably magical Sun Ray Shire, there are just a few spots left.
You can learn all about the retreats and schedule a call to chat with one of our teachers about joining the experience here.
I look forward to closing this chapter of Evolve Move Play and my own life with beauty, depth and intimacy amongst some of my favorite people I have ever had the privilege to meet.
Maybe I’ll see you there.
